An article posted from the New York Times yesterday talks about the Trump administration and the white house attempting to link immigrants to terrorism. The administration apparently also presented statistics showing that majority of people who were convicted of international terrorism charges in the United States were born in foreign countries. A quote that Trump apparently wrote on twitter about the report "shows that nearly 3 in 4 individuals convicted of terrorism-related charges are foreign born." Another quote from the white house fact sheet says "this report shows, once again, that our current immigration system jeopardized our national security". The article goes on to talk about how Trump is also seeking to end the visa lottery and to enact new restrictions on immigrants' ability to bring in members of their families to the United States.
This article shows how much the Trump administration wants to give immigrants a bad reputation by connecting them with terrorism and saying that majority of people who were convicted of international terrorism charges are from foreign countries. I think its pretty ridiculous that the administration is also using this as a way to  try to end the visa lottery. I personally think that the administration is just making up new things to blame on immigrants so there can be a reason to end visas and to stop immigrants from coming into the United States.

This is something that caught my attention because I've never heard of it before so I thought to blog about it. According to the article that I found, ICE will no longer automatically release pregnant immigrants from detention facilities. This is replacing a previous policy that was made by Obama which said that ICE could not detain pregnant women except under only "extraordinary circumstances". After Trump made an executive order in January 2017 that required immigration officers to target all undocumented immigrants, the agency decided to change the way they "dealt" with pregnant women. Pregnant immigrants will still be eligible for release on a "case-by-case" basis according to the ICE website. The agency said that they will detain pregnant women "whose detention is necessary to effectuate removal, as well as those deemed a flight risk or danger to the community". Congress speculates YouTube shooter was an illegal immigrant

A California Congressman on Tuesday speculated that the shooter at the YouTube headquarters in San Bruno could be an "illegal immigrant". "Would anyone be surprised? We have a state government in California that's trying to prevent our law enforcement people from working with the federal law enforcement people to get together the criminal illegal aliens, to deal with criminal illegal aliens". The shooter was later identified as a white adult woman who died at the scene. Her immigration status was not immediately disclosed. California rejects immigration census question

California is trying to push back against the Trump administrations efforts to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census. California's attorney general, Xavier Becerra and 18 other state attorneys general registered their opposition to the question. The justice department had asked the Census Bureau to include a citizenship question on the new census and Becerra disagrees. Becerra believes that the department is wrong when it argues that the addition would be "critical to the department's enforcement of section 2 of the Voting Rights Act." Berea and others wrote in a letter to the U.S. Commerce Secretary that the question would violate the U.S. Census Bureau obligations under the constitution because it requires "counting the whole number of persons in each state," not just citizens.
