ICE can now detain pregnant women because of Trump's executive order

This is something that caught my attention because I've never heard of it before so I thought to blog about it. According to the article that I found, ICE will no longer automatically release pregnant immigrants from detention facilities. This is replacing a previous policy that was made by Obama which said that ICE could not detain pregnant women except under only "extraordinary circumstances". After Trump made an executive order in January 2017 that required immigration officers to target all undocumented immigrants, the agency decided to change the way they "dealt" with pregnant women. Pregnant immigrants will still be eligible for release on a "case-by-case" basis according to the ICE website. The agency said that they will detain pregnant women "whose detention is necessary to effectuate removal, as well as those deemed a flight risk or danger to the community". It also said that pregnant women during their third trimester "absent extraordinary circumstances".
